ISLAMABAD, May 18 (APP): Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Ishaq Dar on Saturday said that the government had established contact with the Kyrgyz authorities to ensure the protection of Pakistani students in Bishkek, amidst the incidents of mob violence according to Kyrgyzstan News. According to Pakistan’s Embassy, foreign students living in Bishkek including those from Pakistan, were subjected to violence by locals in the aftermath of their brawl with Egyptian nationals a few days ago. Some hostels of medical universities in Bishkek and private residences of international students including Pakistanis were attacked.

The deputy prime minister calling the reports of mob attacks on students “extremely concerning” instructed the Pakistan’s ambassador to Kyrgyzstan to fully facilitate them. The embassy has already shared the helpline numbers +996555554476 and +996507567667, and had responded to a hundreds of calls from the students and their families.
Attack on Pakistani Students in Bishkek Kyrgyzstan
According to Kyrgyzstan news reports, Riots have broken out among local and foreign students in Bishkek, the capital of Kyrgyzstan. According to unconfirmed reports, three Pakistani students have been killed during attacks by angry Kyrgyz students. Numerous other Pakistani students have reportedly sustained injuries.

The angry Kyrgyz students have attacked and vandalized hostels housing Pakistani MMBS students, with reports of Pakistani female students being harassed, raising concerns among the Pakistani student community. In a conversation with Geo News, Pakistani students stated that both male and female students in the hostels have been tortured. They also complained about the lack of cooperation from the Pakistan Embassy.
The conflict allegedly started due to the harassment of Egyptian students by Kyrgyz students. According to Muhammad Abdullah, riots erupted after Egyptian students retaliated against the Kyrgyz students. Subsequently, Kyrgyz students launched attacks on foreign students throughout Bishkek. Videos showing violent attacks on students are circulating widely on social media.
